A book to accompany Julie Corcoran’s exhibition, King Billy was a Slave Trader at The Kiosk Project Art Space.

Central to the project is the figure of William III “King Billy” whose role in granting Bristol access to the ‘African Trade’ is reframed through the persistent presence of his statue.

Rather than monumentalising, Julie’s approach interrogates how such figures continue to structure public memory and civic identity, often without scrutiny.

Featuring photographs from the exhibition and a selection of photographs from Julie’s two week residency in Bristol.

Words from Mark Steeds of the Bristol Radical History Group, Christopher Chalkley founder of The People’s Republic of Stoke’s Croft and Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh, barrister at the Colston Four Trial.
